Dave Volk's Photo World

Technical Data:

I am currently using a Canon 20D digital SLR.  It's a marvellous camera  and the pictures are getting better and better.  I stayed with the Canon bodies so I can continue to use the Canon and Canon compatible lenses I own.

I also use a Canon Elan 7E camera. I picked the Canon SLRs for three reasons:

  • They could shoot in everything from full automatic mode, to full manual mode, with various modes mixing and matching.

  • They have some of the fastest autofocus lens available.

  • It was one of the lightest cameras of it's kind, but is sturdy enough that the first bump doesn't destroy the camera.

I have several lenses that I use:

  • A general purpose Sigma 17-125mm digital lens for the 20D.

  • A general purpose Canon 28-135mm lens for both the film and digital SLRs.

  • A Sigma 28-300mm macro lens for wide-angle and zoom shots.

  • A Canon 20-35mm lens for wide-angle shots.

  • A Canon 100mm 2.8 one-to-one macro lens mostly for closeups.

For film work, I tend to use professional slide film, and mostly use Fuji Velvia 50 ASA or Fuji Provia 100 ASA film.  Both films are very fine grain, and hold the images extremely well.  The only drawback is that neither film is high speed, and some action shots in lower light conditions don't work well.  I have dabbled with many of the other slide and print films, but those two remain my favorites.
