Easter Island is located 5 hours by plane west and slightly north of Santiago, Chile.  Easter Island is part of Chile, though by location it is at the extreme south and east corner of the Polynesian Islands.  The Polynesian people existing on Islands in a rough triangle between Hawaii, Easter Island and New Zealand.  The movie Whale Rider is about the Polynesians living in New Zealand.

Easter Island is a small volcanic Island, about 117 square km, and not much more than 20 KM from one end of the Island to the other.
