I went to Alaska in 2003 on the winter solstice to see my friend Ursula and to experience the land of the midnight sun!  And it's true that you do have light 24 hours each day in the summer in Alaska.  Alaska is an untamed frontier, and has some of the most impressive scenery that I have seen.
