Back to the Alaska Gallery 2 page Alaska 2003 Bald Eagle in a Tree 2003-06-27 I stopped to take a picture of a beautiful beaver lodge and pond coming back from Valdez. Another photographer stopped by and asked if a had seen the two bald eagles in the trees above the pond. I hadn't, but I fixed that error in a hurry. This is one of the two eagles in the dead trees above that pond. This is a special photo to me, it is very mystical with the cloud and the avalanche snow in the background, artfully out of focus. The tree branches add a lot of character and that eagle is cool. It looks to me like the eagle has sunglasses on, making it a very cool bird, indeed. Sorry, I'm channeling Sir David Attenborogh.... Alaska has most of the bald eagles in the USA today. The literature said there were more than 1500 mated pairs of bald eagles in the Valdez & Prince William Sound area. If you saw a tall, dead tree in that area there was a good change at least one eagle would be perched, waiting for dinner to come along. |
