Cook Inlet

2003-06-22

Here's a view from the shore of the Cook Inlet with the tide receding.  The rise and fall of the tidal waters is not the most extreme in the world, but it is significant.  And they told me that you don't want to walk out in the inter-tidal zone (past the rocks in the foreground of the picture), because your feet will get stuck in the mud, which is like cement.  If you get stuck, you can die out there, because there's no way to get yourself free, and you will drown if the water is deep enough when the tide comes in.
