Snow Pack Runoff, Cook Inlet

2003-06-22

On the opposite side of the inlet, here is a waterfall, fed by the runoff from the snow on the mountains.  The snow that you see if probably compressed by avalanche activity in the winter, and it is very dense and takes a long time to melt away.

The summer in Alaska is fairly temperate, with temperatures in the 70 degree F. range. And with the perpetual sun in the summer, it's very pleasant. As you might expect, the higher up you go, the colder it gets, and the glaciers and permanent snow areas are chilly.
